“Qantas and Jetstar have resumed operations today to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Ballina. We continue to closely monitor the weather conditions and schedules are progressively building throughout the day.
“As a result of flooding at Hervey Bay airport, Qantas and Jetstar have suspended operations for the remainder of the day with further weather and safety assessments to take place tomorrow.
“Customers should regularly check the Qantas app, Qantas.com and Jetstar.com, and their email and SMS channels to check their flight status.
“To help tens of thousands of customers get to their destinations, Qantas has repositioned aircraft into impacted ports and is operating a supplementary A330 between Sydney and Brisbane.
“Among the passengers today are more than 60 Queensland SES volunteers, who are heading to Brisbane to help support the recovery efforts. Customers are being offered additional flexibility including travel credits and fee- free date changes to those who have booked flights to or from the impacted areas.”
UPDATE AS AT 12:00AM AEDT 9 MARCH 2025
Services remain scheduled to resume from Brisbane early on Sunday morning, however due to ongoing strong winds, Qantas and Jetstar have been unable to reposition some aircraft this evening resulting in further schedule changes.
We are closely monitoring ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and are contacting customers directly to update them on their flight status.
Customers should regularly check the Qantas app, Qantas.com and Jetstar.com, and their email and SMS channels to check their flight status.

“Qantas and Jetstar are working to progressively restart domestic and international flights from 6am Sunday at Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ballina and Maroochydore, subject to weather conditions and safety assessments.
“We are expected to progressively rebuild our schedules throughout the day.
“With forecast winds easing, from this evening we expect to be able to safely return aircraft that were moved out of the expected path of the cyclone to Brisbane and the Gold Coast airports to support the restart on Sunday.
“Teams across the business are working to get customers in and out of Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW as safely and as quickly as possible and continue to work closely with the state and federal government and the relevant local airport authorities.
“Customers should regularly check the Qantas app, Qantas.com and Jetstar.com, and their email and SMS channels to check their flight status.
“We know that this is a very challenging time for many of our customers and continue to offer additional flexibility including travel credits and fee- free date changes to those who have booked flights to or from the impacted areas.”

- Brisbane (BNE) – Qantas and Jetstar flights will be suspended from mid-afternoon Thursday, with international operations suspended until at least midday Saturday local time and domestic operations suspended until at least Sunday morning local time
- Gold Coast (OOL) – Qantas and Jetstar operations are currently suspended, with domestic operations suspended until at least Sunday morning local time and Jetstar international operations suspended until at least midday Saturday local time
- Ballina (BNK) – Qantas and Jetstar operations are currently suspended until at least Sunday morning local time
- Coffs Harbour (CFS) – Qantas flights are expected to resume on Friday
- At this time, flights to and from Sunshine Coast (MCY) and Hervey Bay (HVB) continue to operate. We’ll continue to review and make changes as required

“The safety of our customers and people remains our main priority.
“While the cyclone is likely to make landfall from Friday, there will be cancellations today in Brisbane as we work to get people in and out of Brisbane safely whilst also making sure we are best prepared prior to the cyclone making landfall. This includes making sure our people and aircraft are safe.
“We expect to suspend operations in Brisbane from mid-afternoon Thursday.
“Customers should regularly check the Qantas app, Qantas.com and Jetstar.com, and their email and SMS channels, as we will update them directly or via their travel agent.
“We realise that this is a challenging time for many of our customers and are offering additional flexibility including travel credits and fee free date changes to those who have booked flights to or from the impacted areas.”

“We are working to get people in and out of Brisbane as safely and as quickly as possible and continue to work closely with the state and federal government and the relevant local airport authorities.

“We’re also working alongside the multiple airport authorities, air traffic control and airport services providers to ensure any impact to schedules is clearly communicated to customers and our people.

“We have proactively cancelled a number of flights today from South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
“The situation remains fluid and flight cancellations and delays will evolve over the coming days.

- Coffs Harbour (CFS) – from midnight tonight (Wednesday), Qantas Group will suspend operating flights to and from this location until midday Thursday (at least)
- Ballina (BNK) – flights have been suspended until midnight Thursday (at least)
- Qantas has also suspended flights to and from Lord Howe Island today (Wednesday)
