Long seen as a place to quietly binge watch shows or catch-up on movies, aircraft entertainment is an important part of many people’s journey.
As it does every year, Qantas has revealed the most popular inflight entertainment for 2023 and Australian talent and content were the big winners.
Box office hit Barbie, starring Australian actress Margot Robbie, was the most watched movie of 2023, while global sensation Bluey took out top billing as the most popular kids entertainment program.
Australian shows dominated the small screen, with Five Bedrooms the most watched comedy, The Australian Wars the most watched documentary and Couples Therapy Australia the most popular reality show.
However, it was US hit The White Lotus which was the number one TV show, with Qantas customers spending a collective 300,000 hours watching the second season this year.
Other details of customers entertainment habits include:
- As more customers took to the air, around 80 million hours were spent using the airline’s inflight entertainment, up from 60 million last year.
- Qantas fast, free WiFi continues to grow in popularity, with usage up 10 per cent on the previous year.
- Meditation continues to be a popular choice to help travellers unwind, with Nature Spirit by Jens Buchert the most listened to audio album this year.

- Australian author Liane Moriarty’s Apples Never Fall was the most popular audiobook.
Qantas customers enjoyed plenty of refreshments and treats as they caught up on their favourite shows, making their way through:

- 1.1 million ice-creams
As millions of Australians head off on holidays over the Christmas break, there is plenty of new entertainment to watch and listen to onboard, ranging from the action-packed battles of John Wick – Chapter 4 to family favourites The Super Mario Bros and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The hit new Paramount+ TV show NCIS: Sydney has also been added to the entertainment lineup, which was filmed at picturesque locations across Sydney, including the Rocks and Bondi Beach.
