Qantas customers travelling from the Pilbara are set to enjoy a revamped pre-flight experience with a new Regional Lounge opening its doors at Karratha Airport today.
The bright and stylish lounge has nearly tripled in size and has seating for 80 people. It is located in a new airside area on the upper level of the airport.
Designed by Woods Bagot, the lounge design draws on the unique Pilbara landscape with rich vibrant reds and oranges reflecting the arid land and muted greens representing the native flora. It features floor to ceiling windows that allowample natural light and a front row view of the tarmac.
Qantas Regional Manager of Western Australia, Julian Barry said the opening of the new lounge signified Qantas’ clear commitment to Karratha and the Pilbara region.
“As the only airline to offer a lounge at Karratha Airport, the new space is a great value-add for travellers from the Pilbara community as well as the important Fly-in Fly-out market,” he said.
“The lounge has been designed with our most frequent flyers mind. It accommodates the mix of corporate, leisure and fly-in fly-out workers with added space to work and relax, while showcasing the beauty of the natural landscape through design.
“We’re pleased to continue to support our customers in Karratha with the frequency of flights they need, and an ongoing investment in the lounge and inflight experience.”
A selection of food and premium Australian beer and wine will be offered, as well as a hosted experience during flight departures. Customers will also enjoy quiet spaces to work and relax, complimentary Wi-Fi, newspapers and magazines and Foxtel from large TV screens.
Two pieces of Indigenous artwork by local West Australian artist Jukuja Dolly Snell from the Mangkaja Arts Resource Agency titled “Kurtal” and “Kilangkilang” will feature throughout the lounge.
Karratha is Qantas’ largest port in the Pilbara, and second busiest port in WA after Perth. Qantas and QantasLink offer up to 43 return flights per week between Perth to Karratha.
Qantas continues to invest in its lounges in WA including the recently announced plans for the Perth International TransitLounge and the opening of the Business Lounge at Perth Domestic Airport and the Regional Lounge in Broome.
The Karratha lounge is open to customers travelling in Business, eligible Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club members and oneworld members.
In addition to Qantas’ 12 Qantas Clubs located in major cities and towns across Australia, the airline offers 12 Regional Lounges located in Broome, Coffs Harbour, Devonport, Emerald, Gladstone, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Launceston, Mackay, Port Hedland, Rockhampton and Tamworth.
