Qantas today announced additional flights and the use of larger aircraft to assist football fans travelling to Melbourne this weekend for the AFL Preliminary Final between the Hawthorn Hawks and the Adelaide Crows.
Qantas will operate the following additional flights:
– Saturday 22 September 2012 QF1222 departing Adelaide at 0835 and arriving in Melbourne at 1025
– Sunday 23 September 2012 QF1223 departing Melbourne at 1110 and arriving in Adelaide at 1200
Qantas will also deploy larger aircraft on QF682 between Adelaide and Melbourne on Saturday and QF677 between Melbourne and Adelaide on Sunday which will increase capacity on those services.
The additional flights and capacity will add another 168 seats in each direction – or a total of 336 seats overall.
Qantas Domestic Chief Executive Officer Lyell Strambi said the additional services would provide more opportunities for football fans to travel to Melbourne for the game.
“This is shaping up to be a wonderful finals series and we are excited to provide additional seats to cater for fans wanting to travel to Melbourne to support their teams.” Mr Strambi said.
“These flights are now on sale and fans can purchase seats online at Qantas.com.”
“We’re constantly monitoring demand and will assess if further capacity is required.”
