Queenslanders will find it easier to visit northern Tasmania with Qantas launching its first direct flights from Brisbane to Launceston.

From 1 November 2021, the national carrier will operate three return services per week with QantasLink’s Boeing 717 aircraft until the end of March 2022, offering more than 15,000 additional seats on the route. The airline will look to add more flights beyond this date if there is demand.

From November, Jetstar will also add an additional two weekly return services to its existing Brisbane to Launceston flights offering a total of 9 return flights each week with its Airbus A320 aircraft.

This is the eighth new Tasmanian route Qantas and Jetstar have launched since international borders closed, in response to demand from Australians looking for domestic holidays.

Qantas Domestic and International CEO Andrew David said “As the national carrier, we’re delighted to be adding another route into Tasmania and offering Qantas flights between Brisbane and Launceston for the first time.

“Tasmania has been very popular with travellers in the past year and we’re pleased to be making it easier for Queenslanders to visit the island’s north coast with its historic estates, premium wineries and famous wilderness.

“More visitors will be great for the Tasmanian economy this summer and these flights will also open up more travel options for Launceston residents to Brisbane and onward Queensland destinations.

“Our customers and Frequent Flyers will be able to enjoy our premium service on these new flights, whether its complimentary food and drinks, baggage or access to lounges in Brisbane and Launceston.”

Qantas is offering special fares starting from $169 one-way, available for sale until Sunday 12 September, unless sold out prior.

Qantas’ Fly Flexible policy offers customers who book flights for travel before 28 February 2022 added flexibility with unlimited fee free date changes (A fare difference may apply).
